I Heard A Rumor
There’s a gig in town next week I was thinking I might go
But I’m pretty sure I’m not gonna Let anybody know
Cuz sometime they sang something I haven’t heard about yet
I could make an association That I might regret
I heard a rumor That this might be
Though it might have happened In a previous century
It’s just better to be safe In case I might be painted
As a friend of the wrong person And thus forever tainted
I heard a rumor That once upon a session
That commentator there Committed a transgression
I can’t remember what it was Or if what I heard is so
But until I can be certain Til I absolutely know
I heard a rumor She made a joke on stage
We can’t turn the other cheek And we can never turn the page
She goes to the wrong church She said the wrong thing
Gotta throw her records out Not listen to her sing
I heard a rumor He spoke to the wrong guy
You know the one with the show On Sky
Now they say he’s “right adjacent” To take such interviews
Speak to the wrong channel Then that becomes the news
I heard a rumor She had too much to drink
Asked some nosy questions Now what will people think
It’s a field full of mines Wherever you might walk
Best stay sober and stay silent Before you become the talk
I heard a rumor But now and then I reminisce
About the days that I remember When it wasn’t like this
I think of times gone by On occasion I repine
Recall when I didn’t worry About crossing the wrong line
I heard a rumor
